2 Simple Methods To Block A Water Pipe

Blocking a water pipe may sound difficult but it’s not if you pay attention to the details. You can block the water pipes in 2 different methods. We’ve provided a step-by-step process just for you.

Method 1of 2: Using Plastic Bags And Cement

This method is quite a simple one to follow. You only need to gather a few things for this method. And you can run this method following two steps only.

Step 1 of 2: Stuffing The Plastic Bags

To begin this step, you need to get some plastic bags. You can also clean and reuse your grocery bags. Because reusing grocery bags will not cost you extra money.

It doesn’t matter whether the bags are clean or not. Stuff those bags down the pipe that you want to block.

Step 2 of 2: Filling A PVC Pipe with Cement

Fill a PVC cap with a half bag of cement. Then apply concrete glue to the concrete wall. After that, cover the pipe with the cement-filled cap.

Allow the cement to cure for 2 hours. Now, restart the water pressure. And you should be done!

Method 2 of 2: Using Push-to-Connect Fittings

Before we begin, you must gather the tools that you need for this. Here’s what you’ll need-

  • Rag
  • Marker
  • Tubing cutter or hacksaw
  • Tape measure

Got the tools? Let’s get to work now-

Step 1 of 5: Shut off The Water

First, turn off the water supply of the house. Because you’ll need to cut each pipe’s water pipelines behind or below the shutoff valve. As a result, you’ll need to turn off the water at the main shutoff valve.

You might take longer if your shut-off valve is stuck.

With that being done, drain any remaining water or pressure from the pipes. Do it by turning on a faucet that is lower than the pipes.

As a result, the amount of water that flows out of the pipes will be reduced.

Step 2 of 5: Cut Off The Pipes

You might have enough room to revolve the tool around the pipe. In that case, you can use a tubing cutter. You can also use a hacksaw. Make sure the cut is square and neat.

Make sure the shutoff valve is turned off throughout the cutting process. Otherwise, you’ll end up with a damaged valve.  The cost to replace the main water shutoff valve can put you in more trouble.

The push-to-connect caps ensure a proper seal. Also, leave as much pipe as feasible. As a result, while reconnecting the fixture, you won’t have to add an extension.

Step 3 of 5: Clean The Ends of The Pipe

Now, take a rag to clean the ends of the pipes that you just cut. ItMake sure it’s smooth and clean. You can use a hacksaw to cut the pipes. If this is the case, smooth off any rough edges before cleaning.

Now, you might be in a dilemma to choose the best rag out there! Well, no worries as we’ve got your back! Because we’ve got a couple of suggestions below-

Product 1
Product 2

These are the products that you can trust to use.

If necessary, use an emery cloth to smooth rough areas. But take caution not to sand the pipe down. Because it should be circular and have the same diameter as before.

Step 4 of 5: Cap The Pipes

Make a depth mark starting at the end of each pipe. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for installing the push-to-connect fitting. The mark will indicate when the fitting is fully seated.

But if the pipe isn’t properly capped, there might be sand in the pipe eventually.

This is necessary for a good seal. Then, put it into the pipe until the pipe cap’s edge reaches the depth mark.

Step 5 of 5: Inspect The Capped Fittings

Reconnect the water supply and inspect the cap connections for leakage. Because push-to-connect fittings can be used for both temporary and permanent applications.

Most have a release function that allows the fitting to be removed with a special tool. It’s usually just a piece of plastic that you push against the fitting. To remove the fittings, make sure to use the manufacturer’s tool.

These are the two methods you can follow to block a water pipe.
