Step-02: Bring in The Heads

Before putting the cap on, you need to cut the wire-heads and get them ready.

For that, take the wire stripper. Remove the insulating coating around the wireheads. 

Then wires will be ready to be capped. Keep 1 or 2 inches of clean bare wires after cutting.

Step-03: Put on The Caps

Now, take the wire nuts. Wire nuts are available in different sizes. Pick the right size for your wires. 

Twist plastic caps clockwise around the bare wire. This will cover up the wires with insulated covers.

A point to remember, you don’t have to put a cap on the ground wire. 

Normally you can find three types of wires: active, idle, and the ground line. You can cap the active and idle wire, but leave the ground wire as it is. If you put a cap on the ground, then how will your panel get grounded?

Step-04: Add Insulating Dressing

After putting on the insulated hoods over the wire heads, give an insulating topping to your wires. 

This further ensures the protection of the electric outlet. Just take an insulating tape and put it around the caps.

Step-05: Lock It Up

Now put the cap-wire assembly in the mounted electric box. The box actually works as a frame to enclose the copper wires.

Make sure nothing is loose. Now, you won’t like a short circuit, will you?

Step-06: Cover-Up

Till now, everything’s done. 

Now, it’s time to give it a shot. Put on the blank cover over the box. Screw the bolts. You can paint the cover panels as well. 

Keep the whole assembly of wire and boxes perfectly. Any loose ends can result in short circuits. If the box is not set properly, it will be difficult to fit in the electric outlet.

The Perfect Time to Put on A Cap

Following the above steps, you can easily cap off the electric outlet. Now, the next thing that might be of your concern is, which is the perfect time for capping? 

It’s always easy to work on with copper wires when there’s no drywall around.

Always Turn Off The Power Before Working

As a tip, you can use the insulating tape over the switch of the circuit breaker. You can avoid any mistake by flipping the switch in this way.

Test The Wires Before Working

Test the copper wires before you wrap up the wires. 

Use a voltage tester pen. These are used in multimeters to measure voltage

This will help you to find if there’s any current in any wires. 

If the tester shows zero voltage, this means there’s no electricity flow and it’s safe to work. Otherwise, you have to do the rewiring.

Remove Electrical Outlet
