Caramel stains can turn into something sticky if you don’t take care of it right away. This is not the kind of stain that can go unnoticed for years.
So, how to get caramel out of carpet?
Cleaning caramel out of a carpet can be done in 5 steps. First, you have to clean the caramel solid, then soak the area with hot water. Then, use a cleaning paste and clean that too. Finally, steam clean the carpet.
However, there’s more to the process. It’s all described in this article. Let’s start-
How to Clean Caramel From Carpet?
Caramel stains aren’t that hard to remove from a carpet. In fact, you’ll get it out with a few tries. But like removing clay stains, you need to be thorough with the cleaning process. So, here are the steps-
Step 1: Clean the Caramel Solids
If there is a drop or spill, allow the caramel to harden. You can use ice cubes to harden the caramel. Keep those on the stain for 10-12 minutes and that should do the trick.
After it’s hardened take it off the carpet with a butter knife, a spoon, or a credit card. Do not rub or clean the caramel deep in the fibers of the fabric with a towel.
Step 2: Soak the Area with Hot Water
Take a clean rag and rinse it in hot water. But make sure to avoid using too much hot water. Trust us on this as you don’t want to make the job harder.
Then place the rag on the stained area and rub it gently. It's better to apply the rug in a circular motion. Although any other angles are good enough, just be careful not to spread the mess.
After a few minutes, you'll see that the caramel is much softer. Softer caramel is easier to clean from the fibers on the carpet. Also, you can take out any left out pieces if there were any.
But there’s one very important thing about this step. It’s being patient while continuously rubbing the stain. We can make you happy by saying that, you’ll get it out in 2-3 minutes. But that wouldn’t be fair.
So, keep rubbing on the area until you notice that almost all of the stain is gone.
Step 3: Use a Stain Remover Paste
Now’s the perfect time to use a stain remover as the carpet is still wet. First, grab a clean white rag to pick up some stain remover paste.
We suggest using Quick n Brite or Oxiclean paste because these two products are better than most liquid stain removers. And most importantly, it’s known for not leaving any residue. So, it’s a win-win situation for you.
After you’ve applied the paste on the mess, don’t forget to mix it with the carpet fibers.
Step 4: Clean the Paste
Like all stain removers, this one too needs some time to work. And waiting for 10-15 minutes won’t hurt anyone. And you’ll bear your fruit so don’t worry.
After this period, you’ll find that almost all of the stain is gone or has come to the top. That’s when you know it’s time to clean the paste.
Now don’t get too happy because this step is the most crucial one of the whole process. The stains are loose, making those vulnerable to spreading all over your carpet.
That’s why keep a clean white rag close by you. Use that rag to clean the paste thoroughly. Also, remember to keep switching to a cleaner part of the rag.
Step 5: Steam Clean the Carpet
Hang on with us for a bit more because the process is almost done. Take out your steam cleaner from the garage and plug it right away.
Next, run your steam cleaner thoroughly all over the carpet. Or you only use it on the previously stained area. It’s completely up to you. But now that you’ve taken it out, giving your whole carpet a good cleaning makes more sense, right?
Well, that’s it. Your carpet is in its pristine state once again.
