Fixing Uneven Vinyl Floor Click

The process involving the fixing of uneven or loose vinyl flooring is easy. Loose planks would be clicking on them. This is an unpleasant scenario where you want to fix it as fast as possible.

You should be investigating if there are hollow spots under vinyl plank flooring. These usually make the flooring create loose ends at the edges.

The process of filling hollow spots on the vinyl floor is similar. This is in context to what you are going to do here.

You can easily know how to fix the uneven and loose vinyl floor. This is by the end of the 7 steps process.

Step 1: Inspect The Problem Area

The vinyl plank flooring is done by striking the tongue edges to each other. The edges usually lock together with the click and lock system.

In the first step, inspect how much the edges are clicking out. With this, you will understand how to fix the lifting vinyl floor. This means you will see how the edges of the wood are separating and creating gaps.

You need to use a suction cup and a wooden mallet to fix the gaps. Inspect if gaps are appearing all around the area. Check if gaps are appearing at the edges of the room.

Try moving the plank near the edges of the room. This is to see if the click and lock system is moving. This is to ensure that you are filling in the gaps on laminate flooring.

Use the suction tool to hold the plank wood. After that, tap the top of the wooden surface with a mallet. See what happens, the edges may just pop out.

Step 2: Apply Masking Tape

You have inspected the causes of the damaged area. This means it is time to move on to the next step. You are going to first separate the wood from the click-lock system.

The next step is to fill in the gap area. To do that, you have to apply masking tape on both ends. This is going to help you understand how to repair click-lock flooring.

Masking the tape at two ends means at the edges of the two kinds of wood. This is where the gap is formed. This is going to help you apply adhesives or glue to make the perfect bonding.

The tape is also going to ensure that there are no messy leftovers. This is when the glue is applied.

Step 3: Inject The Caulking

In this step, you are going to need an injector which is also called a syringe. You are going to be filling the syringe with caulking. Drill a tiny hole onto the taped area to inject the caulking.

This is a perfect guide to fixing hollow spots under the laminate floors. Injecting the caulking on the floor would prevent the wood from moving. The caulking would harden underneath the wood but it won’t fill in the gaps.

To fill in the gaps, you would need super glue. A common question usually appears about the importance of caulking for gluing the wood.

Applying caulking before the gluing would hold the wood together. When the movement is restricted, it will be easy to stick superglue around the edges. The click-locking system is going to be fixed in the process. An adhesive sealant like caulking is resistant to any external pressure.

This means the caulking would allow the wood to not be affected by external pull. This will make the plank wood more durable in your house.

Step 4: Dab Super Glue In The Edges

The next process is to dab super glue in the edges that are creating the gap. You will need super glue and an activator to do the job.

Put a little bit of glue on a cotton bud. Then gently, place it on one end of the edges of the vinyl floor wood. Don’t overdo it as it will leave some chunks around the edges which would be messy.

This is the best method of laying vinyl flooring on uneven floorboards. After you have applied the glue, it is time to apply the activator. Take a piece of aluminum foil and spray some activator on it.

Take a cotton bud to collect the activator. This should be followed by applying it to the edges. It is important to note that the process is not similar to repairing damaged wood with filler.

You won’t need any filler in this scenario. You can do the job with super glue and an activator with the assistance of caulking.

Step 5: Tap Mallet To Close The Gap

The use of the suction tool cannot be avoided here. As you have done it before, you are going to do it again. The suction tool will help you to hold the wood.

While the suction tool is fixed, you are going to tap the wood. This is by using a mallet. You have to keep tapping until the gap between the two ends is covered.

The tapping action will make the edges stick together firmly. This will further prevent the vinyl plank flooring from lifting at the edges. Tap around the locked edges to make it even.

Step 6: Take Off The Masking Tape When The Floor Is Even

The main process should end by now. As you have glued the edges, with the tap, the ground has become even. It will be difficult to spot any gaps by the end of the first 5 steps.

Take off the masking tape to see how evenly the two planks of wood are placed. At this stage, you have acquired the right knowledge. This is to understand how to fix poorly installed laminate flooring.

When you have taken off the masking tape, the area can be a little messy. Glues can just stick out in the area. Use a utility knife to scrape excess glue out.

Step 7: Allow The Glue To Dry

As you have cleaned the area by taking out the excess specimens, you have to wait. This means you are going to allow some time for the glue to dry. The drying time of the wood would be integrated depending on the depth of the bonding.

It should take around 24 hours to 72 hours to completely dry down. In the case of repairing cracked vinyl flooring, the fillers dry down fast. Since you have applied glue with the caulking, the process takes longer to dry.

To be completely safe, allow 3 days for the solution to blend in. Make sure no one is stepping onto the area within these 3 days.

After the suggested time, you will see how the whole area looks new and fresh!

To complete the whole process successfully, you will need some products.

Here is a complete list of products that you are going to be needing:

How do I stop the laminate flooring from hollowing?

You can stop laminate flooring from hollowing by installing an underlayment pad. You can also transition the flooring process in between rooms. However, at first, you need to secure expansion spaces.

Why shouldn’t I use filler to close the gap between woods?

Fillers are usually good for filling cracks or any holes. The bonding adhesive is not sufficient to close the edges between two planks of wood. This is the reason why superglue is mostly recommended.

What can I do to make the wood glue dry faster?

The usage of a blow dryer can help you dry the glue fast. You can also install a heat lamp to allow a certain temperature to flow. This will make the drying process happen faster.
