Here are some of the problems and their solutions for you;

Problem 1: Leaking Faucets

Leaking faucets in the bathtub are the most frequent. It starts off with dripping water which can be neglected by many homeowners. Although initially, it might not seem like a big problem, it can go wrong soon.

Also, you will find the faucet making loud noises

Any bathtub leak is a big issue. The continuous drip might end up corroding the area. As a result, you will start observing stains on your bathtub. Also, the constant dripping will cause you to have bigger water bills.

Therefore, fixing it soon would be the best idea.

Solution

You can solve this issue by replacing the rubber washer located inside of your faucet. Those washers wear out over the years and stop working eventually.

For fixing it, take the faucet apart. Find the washer and replace it with a new one.

If you are uncertain of what the washer looks like, take the faucet to your local hardware store. You will find experts there who will be able to instruct you on the correct materials.

Another problem you might face is the uncertainty of which washer to install. Again, your local hardware store to the rescue. They will be able to guide you to find the best replacement for your washer.

Problem 2: Cracks in the Bathtub

Sometimes cracks in the bathtub are obvious. This happens due to excessive leakage of water. Also, you might not even notice it but there can be cracks that are as thin as a hairline. Those cracks need to be immediately addressed.

To do that, you will need to identify the exact location of the cracks, for this, fill up the tub with water first. Then close the water stream. After you are done with both the steps, look for where the water is leaking out.

Once you find the leakage, take immediate precautions to stop this.

There are other signs from which you can identify leakages. Such as, the floor getting wet after filling out the tub. Also, you will find rusts forming around the cracks over time.

Therefore, this issue needs to be addressed as soon as possible.

Solution

You can easily seal your cracked bathtub with a few simple tools. It’s easy enough to do it by yourself. First, you will need some sandpaper.

Sand the area thoroughly before you initiate the process. This will allow the patch to hold. Ensure that you don’t sand the outside area of the hole. It’s really easy to scratch the surface of the tub if you are not careful.

Then apply the two-compound epoxy kit that you have bought. The mixing process of the epoxy will come with the manual. But usually, you just need to mix both compounds in a mixing tray.

Mix the epoxy and apply it to the cracks. After you are satisfied with the hole, let it dry. Usually, it takes 24 hours to completely dry out. Ensure that no water body touches the tub or the epoxy area. It will lengthen your dry period.

You can use this method to seal your bathroom drains as well.

Problem 3: Leaking Drains

Leaking drains are also one of the most common issues found in bathtubs. It usually appears if they are not installed properly. Also, the bathtub drain not lining up can cause this issue as well.  In such cases, the water seeps underneath the bathtub.

This leak usually requires a professional plumber to fix it. Also, leaking drain can be caused by poorly done drainage assembly as well.

Solution

Although it is recommended to consult a professional plumber for this issue, you can DIY too. All you need is some plumber’s putty and some experience in applying it.

To do that, get the drain removed first. Read the manual for proper instructions to do this. The process is relatively easy and worth a couple of hours of work.

Now start reassembling again. Use the putty where you find leakage. Then Slowly, you will reinstall the drainage properly. And you are good to go.

Cracked Bathtub: Can You Fix it With Flex Seal?

You can use a flex seal for the cracked bathtub. But this will not hold permanently. It’s a temporary solution that will allow the problem to reappear.

Flex seal works on very specific materials. It performs the best with fiberglass. So, if your bathtub is made with fiberglass, go ahead and use it.

But most of the bathtubs are made with ceramics and porcelain. Therefore, flex seal products won’t be upheld for too long. The surface of ceramic and porcelain do not adhere to flex seals.

Therefore, even if you apply it, it will only last for three to four days. After that period, you will again have to seal the cracks.

So, it is not recommended to use flex seals for your bathtub crack fixing purposes. Epoxy seals are much more suitable for that kind of job.

There are a variety of different issues that you may encounter with your bathtub. But, these three are the most common. I’m hoping you’ll be able to patch them once you’ve followed our instructions.
