How to Defrost a KitchenAid Refrigerator: Troubleshooting!
Defrosting the refrigerator might not be a hard task. But, unarguably, it’s extremely time-consuming and annoying.
Also, not to forget how painful it can be if the right measures are missed. It might create more ruckus than before if you screw up this deforestation process.
Yet, before anything, let’s check the easy way outs of this issue below:
- First, unlock the refrigerator door and push and hold the key for the security alarm.
- Then, push and hold the key that lowers the thermostat in the refrigerator area (refrigerator down button).
- After that, remove the door emergency alarm, and the code Fd will display just on the left display. That will occur after roughly 3 seconds.
- Second to last, press the refrigerator temperature reduction button a second time. SH will be placed on the right display.
- Lastly, hit the button that lowers the temperature of the refrigerator for the 3rd time.
- The Fd and SH will begin to blink on the display. Which will indicate that the fridge has entered thaw mode.
If this basic issue is solved, your fridge should start defrosting by now. But if it’s still effective, you might have to go for a manual formula.
Got scared? Don’t worry, I’ve got you! It’s just as easy, it just requires more hard work and patience. Come on I’ll show you:
5 Step Measures to Defrost KitchenAid Refrigerator Manually
If you are reading this far, then I’m assuming the troubleshooting didn’t fix the trouble. Hence, you are here for some good ol’ manual ways to defrost.
To defrost manually, you need to follow some simple rules. And those are given chronologically below:
Step 1: Turn off the Fridge
Start by turning off the refrigerator. It’s like the easiest steps of all. All you have to do is to unplug the wire. Or just turn off the switch that the fridge is plugged in.
Before that, check for the amount of time a refrigerator should run before shutting off. And also, if you feel like you can’t reach that far from your fridge, do this.
Turn off the main switch from the circuit. This way you’d know the electricity is not passing through your fridge. This will also prevent you from being electrocuted.
Step 2: Empty The Fridge Completely
Next would be making sure the fridge is empty. This step is very important. Also a step anyone can achieve.
Do not leave anything in the fridge during this process. Or, everything will get spoiled and the fridge will start to stink.
Like, you would hate it if your fridge smells like boiled eggs. Or worse rotten eggs. So, make sure to empty everything out of the fridge.
Step 3: Leave the Door Open
After you’ve turned off the fridge and cleaned the contents, leave the door open. This will ultimately lead to ice melting.
This one particularly plays the main role in defrosting. You’d have to make sure the fridge’s door is left open for at least 24 hours.
This will make sure the ice has melted properly and finely. Even though it will leave a messy residue.
Step 4: Mop the Water
Here comes my least favorite part. This is the time of cleaning up the watery mess that has been left behind your fridge.
Make sure to wipe off every residue of moisture surrounding your fridge. Because you’d have to turn it on later and I don’t want to see you putting out an electrical fire next.
As of now, we are talking about moping, here are some of my favorite brands for mop:
Do try out them and find your perfect cleaning friend. They Are much more effective and fun to work with.
Step 5: Turn on the Refrigerator
Easy and stress-free part, here we come. Just undo what you did in step 1. And ta-da! You have a new defrosted fridge for yourself!
Enjoy the moment as it lasts because this is an every three months occurrence. Even though it sounds intimidating, it’s actually therapeutic.
Other than being super stressful and a bit damaging to your fridge, defrosting is fun. Try it yourself sometimes.
Here’s the thing, we all hated the 24-hour timeline. I know, cause the same. Also, given our busy schedule, it might be exhausting to wait for 24 hours for the fridge to defrost.
Therefore, I present to you a 2 ingredient alternative to this misery. Keep following the steps:
Option 1: Hot water
For this, you need to follow the first two steps of the previous one. Yes, which means turning off the fridge and emptying contents remains the same.
After these steps, add boiling water to the frozen parts carefully. One mistake might cause you and your fridge a lifetime of pain. And fridge failure is the ultimate money stealer.
Option 2: Spatula
After the hot water effect, wait for 5 minutes. This will soften down the ice and make it easily scrapable.
Then, take your spatula, likely of steel, and gently scrape off the ice. Yes, you read it right. Scrape off the debris of ice.
It’s easy and not bad until you use too much pressure. So careful in that matter. Also, this will help you to take off any residue of ice in an hour or two.
This one is more dangerous and not entertaining unless you are a mature adult. Even then, I want you to be careful. But I gotta admit this one is much faster and saves everyone’s energy.
Question: Is it possible to defrost the freezer without a fridge?
Answer: Yes, it is. But it’s kinda manual and takes a lot of energy. Like, you’d have to use hot water and a spatula to scrape it out.
Question: Is it possible to refreeze food that has been defrosted?
Answer: Yes, it is. But it is not encouraged. It forces the food to lose some of its properties making them unpleasant to eat.
Question: How to remove the defrost button?
Answer: It’s actually very easy. First, turn off the main switch of the fridge. Then, count up to ten and restart it. That is how you can remove the defrost button.
Hoping, by now you know how to defrost a KitchenAid refrigerator. It’s one of those tasks anybody can do with proper guidelines.
But if you still couldn’t do it, don’t worry. Just ask for professional help. I’m sure they’d be more than glad to help.
Hope you have a wonderful evening!
