So, we won’t be surprised if you did hear about this method. Now let’s see how it helps to get rid of the gear oil smell-

Create A Mixture

First, you’ll need to make an excellent and balanced mixture. For that, you’ll need some extra ingredients alongside vinegar. To create the mixture for 1-2 clothing items, you’ll need-

  • 1-2 cups of white vinegar
  • 2-3 cups of warm water
  • 1 tablespoon of detergent

You can add more or less of the ingredients depending on the number of clothes. After pouring the ingredients into your bucket, mix them properly.

Put The Clothes Into The Bucket

Once you’re finished making the mixture, you can place the clothes into it. Let the clothes soak in the formula for at least 3-5 hours. You can even use a timer, which also comes in handy to check how long your toilet is running.

Wash And Sun Or Air Dry

After 3-5 hours, you can get your clothes out of the vinegar mixture. A little tip is to smell the clothes before drying them. If the clothes still smell bad, keep the clothes in that mixture for another 30-45 minutes.

And if the smell is gone, you can either sun or air dry them. And you’ll have your clothes smelling good again!

Baking Soda

Did you know baking soda helps remove stains and odor? Well, now you know. Furthermore, baking soda can remove old masking tape residue as well.

Anyway, let’s take a look at how it’ll help you to get that awful smell out-

Apply Baking Soda On The Stain

The first thing you have to do is apply baking soda paste to the old gear oil stain. To make the paste, you must pour 2-3 teaspoons of water into ½ cup baking soda.

Mix them properly until you get a paste-like mixture. Once it’s ready, apply it to the old stains. Lastly, leave the clothes with the paste on for 5-7 hours.

Wash With Detergent And Let Dry

After 5-7 hours, you’ll have to wash off the paste. We suggest washing your clothes with a scented detergent for a better result.

After you’ve finished washing, check if the stain or the smell is still present. If yes, then restart the whole process again.

But, there’s a high chance the smell will be gone after the first wash. So, if your clothes smell better, you can just sun or air dry them.

Coke

You might be surprised to see us telling you to use coke as a cleaning agent. But it can help to remove the gear oil smell. How?

Well, because Coke has phosphoric acid in it. Which is known to have grease-busting abilities.

Now that you know how coke helps, let’s see how using it removes the smell-

Pour The Coke In

Firstly, you have to buy coke from your nearby store. How much will you need?

Well, we don’t have the exact amount. However, we suggest using 2 liters of coke for 2-3 clothes. After getting the coke, pour it into a bucket along with the clothes. And keep them there for at least 30 minutes.

Wash And Sun/Air Dry

Lastly, after the time is over, remove the mixture and wash the clothes using detergent. Make sure to check whether the smell is still there or not after washing the clothes.

If the clothes still have the gear oil smell, put them into the mixture again for another 10-20 minutes. And now that the smell is gone, you know what to do. You need to air dry the clothes or put them under sunlight.
