How to Get Hot Chocolate Stain Out of Carpet

The most important thing to do when removing chocolate from a carpet is maintaining time. It’s kind of similar to removing beer stains out of a carpet. You have to be quick so that your carpet doesn’t have any permanent damage. So, here’s what you need to do-

Step 1: Clean Excess Chocolate

First, you need to remove the extra chocolate from the carpet. A paper towel or a rag can do it. You can even use a dull knife to do the job. But make sure to wipe the knife every now and then while using it.

However, if the chocolate is soft, you can rub some ice cubes to freeze it. That’ll make it easier to remove.

Step 2: Do a Patch Test

Before doing the patch test, find out what type of carpet you have. Different carpet types need different removal techniques. So, see whether you have a natural or synthetic fiber carpet

If you’re not sure what’s what, you can call a professional.

Now, do a patch test to see if the cleaner you’re going to use is good for your carpet or not. If you see any discoloration on your carpet, immediately clean the area and call a professional.

Step 3: Apply a Detergent Solution

First, mix 0.5 tablespoons of liquid dish-washing soap and 500 ml of warm water in a bowl. Then, put on a pair of rubber gloves. These will protect from you any harmful chemicals.

Now comes the cleaning part. Soak a clean white rag in the detergent solution and rub it on the area for a few seconds. Remember to repeat the process until the stain is almost gone.

After 15-20 minutes, you’ll see that most of the stain is gone. That’s when you should clean up the excess liquid with a paper towel or clean rag.

Step 4: Use a Vinegar Solution

The vinegar solution will remove any detergent that’s left behind on the carpet. For making this solution, you’ll need to mix 250 ml of white vinegar and 500 ml of water.

Now, soak a paper towel or rag in the solution and rub it against the stain. After 15-20 minutes, rinse the area with lukewarm water.

Step 5: Apply Carpet Cleaner

You’d want to make sure that the carpet is perfectly dried before you use a carpet cleaner. However, if you have a really bad stain, you need to do something extra.

Put a stack of paper towels or clean white rags on the stain and place something heavy on top. After 25-30 minutes it’ll be ready for the carpet cleaner.

Now, there are tons of carpet cleaners available on the market. So, make sure you’re buying a good one.

Apply a good amount of carpet cleaner on the stain and wait for 15-20 minutes. After that, scrub the area with a scrub brush and you’ll be good to go.
