Galanz Fridge Not Cooling: 7 Factors & Easy Fixes

Galanz is a popular choice for mini-fridges. It is really handy to get cold and fresh beverages nearby all the time. But if it doesn’t cool properly then the experience isn’t pleasant at all.

Why is your Galanz fridge not cooling?

Externally bad placement and a faulty door are the main causes that could decrease cooling of Galanz fridge. If the thermostat doesn’t work the fridge won’t change the temperature. Getting dust in the condenser fan and coils is also a reason. Ensuring adequate power supply is important too.

I got the basic idea, time to head down to a more detailed discussion.

Why Did Mini Fridge Stop Cooling?

Mini fridges guarantee a fresh and cold beverage at arms-length whenever I feel the need for it.

But if a mini-fridge isn’t cool enough, that will ruin the experience. And it will not be able to deliver me the cool drink it is supposed to. Many fridges make beeping sounds if it’s too hot or cold.

But what can cause it to not cool as it did before?

There could be an array of things that can go wrong in a fridge. The fridge is made up of lots of mechanical and electrical parts.

Also, there are some physical factors that need to be taken care of. If those things are not doing their job properly then the fridge will not cool well too.

If I get to know about what went wrong in my Galanz fridge, then it would be easier for me to identify the actual cause and solve accordingly.

Come take a look at which factors can be the reason behind the inefficient cooling.

Factors Behind The Fridge Not cooling

There are a lot of factors that can cause the fridge to not function properly as I have mentioned earlier.

These factors can be better classified into two groups. One is external factors and one is the fridge’s internal factors.

Both have the same level of importance. As any one of them having any dysfunction will cause the drudge to not operate properly.

Let me elaborate further on how these external and internal factors come into play.

External Factors

External factors are those which are not essentially part of a fridge. These are certain actions that have a direct effect on the performance of the fridge.

I listed below which ones can be the external factor.

1. Placement Of The Fridge

Fridges in your room can not be placed just about anywhere

In my room, there are sports that have constant sunlight. If I place my fridge there, the constant sunlight will warm my fridge up.

The fridge would have to work very hard to regulate the temperature. and thus it will be weak eventually.

2. Not Plugging in Properly

This is a very silly mistake but still, I see many people doing this. The fridge needs a constant power source.

Fridges should be directly plugged into the wall. If your connection is loose or faulty then it will not be able to deliver enough power to be cool enough. Check if it needs to be plugged in a 110v or 120v outlet.

Also plugging your fridge via a power strip or extension cord can cause power loss, that’s why plugging it directly into the wall is better.

3.  Keeping The Door Closed

This is also a common problem that can be seen very often.

The door acts as the seal for the fridge. This traps the cold air inside and doesn’t let the hot air come inside the fridge.

But if you do not close the door properly, it will not be able to keep the cold air inside, and the fridge won’t be able to cool down.

4. Clearance In The Room

The fridge needs to be placed with some room around it. The space will allow the air to circulate better. That will let the fridge be cool.

Also, the fridge should not be placed around something radiating heat. That warms up the fridge and it has to work much harder and inefficiently.

Internal Factors

Internal factors are parameters that have a direct link to the fridge itself. Mainly various parts of the fridge are the internal factors.

Before jumping to a conclusion, or taking the fridge to a mechanic and spending money you should be able to understand the situation.

This way you will learn where to start and what changes and fixes need to be made.

1. Thermistor & Thermostat

The thermistor and thermostat malfunction could cause various problems.

The thermistor shows you the temperature in my fridge. And the thermostat controls the fridge’s temperature. This decides at what temperature the insides of your fridge will have.

If any of them malfunctions then I would have either a temperature readingless fridge or a fridge that can’t change its temperature as I want.

2. Condenser Coils & Condenser Fan Motor

Condenser coils and condenser fans do most of the heavy work for cooling down the insides of a fridge.

The gasses with high temperatures spiral through the condenser coils and at the end there is a fan to cool it down.

If somehow the condenser fans and coils don’t work properly then the fridge will not be able to cool down.

3. Problems With The Start Relay

The start relay is typically mounted on the side of the condenser. This establishes the connection between the fridge and the condenser.

If somehow the relay is not working properly then the condenser will not work at all. And the condenser not working means the fridge is not going to cool down.

What Solutions could You Try?

When you start noticing that your fridge is not cooling as it is supposed to be, the first reaction should be to check if all the external factors are working properly.

The fridge should be kept in a cold and dark place in the room where there is no direct sunlight. And it should not be kept near anything that radiates heat.

Make sure that the fridge is placed with some gap between them and the walls and surroundings. That’s how proper airflow can be ensured.

The fridge door has to be shut down perfectly. Check if the seal in the door is in good condition or it has to be replaced.

One thing you can do is, tilt the fridge backward slightly. But from side to side the fridge should be level. A spirit level will come in handy in these situations.

Come check out some of the spirit levels that are available close at hand:

Hopefully this helps you next time you go looking for a spirit level when you need one!

Tilting the fridge slightly backward will help the door to be kept shut perfectly.

If all these factors are okay then you need to consider the internal factors. Mainly the thermostat, thermistor, Condenser coils, condenser fan, and relay.

Both the thermostat and thermistor have to be checked by changing the temperature. If they are faulty then they must be changed.

The condenser part may be covered by dust and dirt and thus hampering its cooling ability. They need to be wiped and dusted often so that they are working efficiently.

Tips To Keep The Fridge Healthy

Other than the very basic required parts that you need to look out for, there are some things you can do to keep my Galanz fridge working properly.

Firstly you should keep the fridge moderately full. The fridge should neither be running empty nor it should be overstacked. Because both make the fridge work much harder and reduce its efficiency over time.

Defrosting the fridge once in a while is a very good practice. There is ice build-up in my fridge as I use it. Defrosting it helps the ice empty away and the fridge gets a reboot.

Lastly, keep the interior and exterior of the fridge clean. Too much dust build-up will hamper it from cooling like it’s supposed to be. And the condenser fans can suck up dirt from the room.

That’s how you can identify the problems with your fridge and keep it up and running!

FAQs

Question: How long do mini-fridges take to get cold?

Answer: Most general mini-fridges tend to take 4-6 hours to get cold from the first startup. But it is better to let it cool for a longer time to ensure it is working perfectly before loading it with contents.

Question: Which number of the dial indicated colder in my Galanz fridge?

Answer: The number of the dial spans from 0 to 7 in Galanz fridges. With 7 being the coldest. Default settings ask for the dial to be set at 4 for regular usage.

Question: What’s the ideal temperature for a mini-fridge?

Answer: Mini fridges have mainly two compartments and the refrigerator part should be kept at nearly 40 degrees Fahrenheit. And the freezer part should be zero degrees. This is the ideal setting for mini-fridges.
